Deciding to regain clear vision after spending years behind a thick pair of glasses was never an easy choice. Like many others, I spent a long time comparing different eye hospitals before making my decision. In the end, thanks to a recommendation from a close friend who had undergone successful vision correction surgery, I chose Japan International Eye Hospital (JIEH). Having just completed my comprehensive pre-operative examination there, I’d like to share my experience for anyone who is also thinking about saying goodbye to their glasses.

Review of my pre-operative eye examination experience at Japan International Eye Hospital
I first learned about the hospital through reviews and recommendations from KOLs, including Chau Bui, who underwent Phakic ICL surgery at this hospital. Another factor that influenced my decision was that JIEH is widely recognized as one of the leading eye hospitals in Hanoi.
My very first impression—and probably the biggest highlight—was the hospital’s exceptional patient care. From the moment I scheduled my appointment, everything was handled professionally. Before my visit, the hospital staff proactively called to remind me of my appointment and carefully explained all the necessary preparations beforehand. This thoughtful attention to detail made someone as nervous as me feel much more reassured and mentally prepared.
Once I arrived for the examination, I immediately understood why so many people describe the process as incredibly thorough. The comprehensive pre-operative eye examination lasted around two to three hours and included a series of detailed measurements and diagnostic tests using advanced ophthalmic equipment. Although the process was time-consuming, every step gave me confidence that my eyes were being evaluated with the highest level of precision. The technicians and nurses were patient, gentle, and attentive throughout every stage of the examination.
After all the tests were completed, I had a one-on-one consultation with the ophthalmologist. Because I have the challenging combination of thin corneas and high myopia, I was not considered an ideal candidate for conventional laser vision correction procedures such as LASIK or SMILE. Instead, the doctor recommended Phakic ICL surgery (implantable Collamer lens implantation) as the safest and most suitable option for my eyes. This approach would minimize potential complications while providing the best possible visual quality after surgery. What gave me even greater peace of mind was learning that my procedure would be personally performed by Dr. Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, MD, MSc, the hospital’s Medical Director and a highly experienced refractive surgeon. Knowing that such a respected specialist will perform my surgery has significantly eased my anxiety.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the service, clinical environment, and the professionalism demonstrated throughout the examination process at Japan International Eye Hospital. The standardized examination protocol and attentive patient care truly make the experience worthwhile. I now have a clear diagnosis, a personalized treatment plan, and most importantly, the confidence to move forward with my upcoming surgery.
