On March 22–23, the Saigon Eye Hospital—Vietnam’s largest network of specialized eye hospitals*—in collaboration with Carl Zeiss, hosted the scientific conference “Elevating Ophthalmology in the Digital Era with the Zeiss Medical Ecosystem” in Ho Chi Minh City.
The event drew participation from over 300 doctors and healthcare professionals from across the country, reaffirming the reputation and leadership of both organizations in the field of ophthalmology.
The conference brought together prominent ophthalmologists from the National Eye Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital, Saigon Eye Hospital, Nethradhama Eye Hospital (India), Cao Thang Eye Hospital, and various specialized eye hospitals nationwide. All attendees shared a common goal: to enhance the professional standards of Vietnamese ophthalmology and move closer to meeting international benchmarks.

The event featured over 20 specialized presentations covering key ophthalmic topics such as refractive surgery, presbyopia treatment, and cataract management. In addition, the latest clinical studies and treatment approaches were actively analyzed and discussed, providing participants with highly practical and insightful updates.
One of the conference highlights was the presentation by Dr. Truong Cong Minh, Level II Specialist and Executive Director of Saigon Eye Hospital – Le Thi Rieng Branch. His talk, titled “Tips for New Surgeons in SMILE/SMILE PRO Surgery,” focused on standardizing surgical procedures to ensure safety and effectiveness. He also offered a practical guide on common complications and how to address them. With more than 160,000 successful refractive surgeries under his belt, Dr. Minh shared invaluable insights aimed at helping new surgeons build confidence and competence in their surgical practice. His presentation drew significant interest and engagement from the attending professionals.

Advancing Cataract Surgery with Innovation: Phaco Quatera 700 and Zeiss Cataract Workflow. Another notable presentation at the conference was delivered by Dr. Tran Van Ket, Level II Specialist and Executive Director of Saigon Eye Hospital – Can Tho Branch. His report, titled “The Phaco Quatera 700 Machine: A New Era in Phaco Surgery,” focused on optimizing Phaco energy use through the POD (Power on Demand) mode, which enhances both safety and surgical outcomes.
Dr. Ket also introduced the integration of the Zeiss Cataract Workflow—a fully digitalized surgical process designed to reduce manual steps and shorten procedure time. According to his data, 100% of patients reported satisfaction with their post-operative vision, marking a significant milestone in cataract treatment and underlining the transformative potential of new technologies in ophthalmology.
