The seminar featured the participation of leading ophthalmology experts and doctors from Vietnam and internationally.
Vietnam–Russia International Eye Hospital is currently one of the leading ophthalmology systems in applying modern surgical techniques such as ReLEx SMILE, SMILE Pro, Phakic ICL, femtosecond cataract surgery, Presbyond presbyopia treatment, and amblyopia rehabilitation. With more than 15 years of establishment and development, the hospital has become a trusted destination, bringing brighter vision to millions of patients nationwide.
Leading the microsurgery revolution in ophthalmology
In Hanoi, the scientific seminar titled “New Trends in Vitreoretinal Surgery and Functional Eye Reconstruction” organized by Vietnam–Russia International Eye Hospital attracted the participation of many top experts from Vietnam and abroad.
The event notably welcomed GS.TS Khristo Takhchidi, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and former General Director of the MNTK Fyodorov Eye Center. The professor highly appreciated the rapid development of Vietnam’s ophthalmology sector, especially the Vietnam–Russia International Eye Hospital system, which is one of Southeast Asia’s leading centers for ReLEx SMILE surgery with tens of thousands of successful cases.
Mastering a wide range of advanced ophthalmic surgical techniques

Dr. Khristo Takhchidi speaking at the event
According to GS. Khristo Takhchidi, the Vietnam–Russia International Eye Hospital system has routinely implemented advanced techniques requiring high expertise and modern equipment:
Outstanding techniques:
- Phakic ICL & EVO ICL — a solution for high myopia and thin corneas
- ReLEx SMILE & SMILE Pro — modern, minimally invasive myopia correction
- Femtosecond cataract surgery with advanced multifocal IOLs
- Presbyond treatment — improving both near and distance vision
- Amblyopia and strabismus treatment using modern pediatric ophthalmology systems
These techniques have benefited millions of patients nationwide, especially those with complex eye conditions or those previously deemed unsuitable for laser surgery.
Advancing vitreoretinal surgery and visual reconstruction
One of the highlights of the seminar was GS. Takhchidi’s presentation on:
- Macular hole surgery
- Microsurgical techniques for macular reconstruction
- Global trends in vitreoretinal surgery
The ophthalmologists of Vietnam–Russia International Eye Hospital also shared their experience with complicated cases, providing updates on new technologies to improve outcomes in visual rehabilitation for visually impaired patients.
15 years of development

Mr. Dương Chí Kiên, Chairman of the Vietnam–Russia Medical Corporation
On its 15th anniversary, the hospital was recognized by the Vietnam Records Organization for:
- Having the highest number of ReLEx SMILE surgeries in Vietnam
- Having the highest number of cataract surgeries with Zeiss multifocal intraocular lenses
The system now includes four large-scale hospitals located in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and Ho Chi Minh City — all built to international standards.
Pioneering refractive surgery and vision correction
For consecutive years (2022–2023), Vietnam–Russia International Eye Hospital has led Southeast Asia in the number of ReLEx SMILE surgeries performed, with nearly 50,000 successful cases.
Additionally, the hospital is a reputable center for Phakic ICL — a method designed for high myopia, thin corneas, or patients unsuitable for laser procedures.
International clinical evidence confirms that EVO ICL provides sharp, stable vision, does not cause dry eye, and delivers a satisfaction rate of nearly 99.4%.
Commitment to sustainable development
“Vietnam has notable strengths and achievements, while Russia is a cradle of scientific advancement with numerous breakthroughs in medicine, especially ophthalmology. Updating knowledge, sharing clinical experience, and applying new technologies are crucial in eye disease treatment. This seminar gives us the opportunity to learn about the latest innovations, modern technologies, and future trends in vitreoretinal and reconstructive eye surgery,” affirmed Mr. Duong Chi Kien, Chairman of the Vietnam–Russia Medical Corporation.
Mr. Duong Chi Kien shared the hospital’s goals:
- Serving as a bridge for scientific and technological exchange in ophthalmology between Vietnam and Russia
- Continuously updating advanced techniques, especially in vitreoretinal and refractive surgery
- Training and enhancing the expertise of medical staff, building a hospital model that meets international standards
With modern technology, experienced specialists, and strong international collaboration, Vietnam–Russia International Eye Hospital has affirmed its position as one of Vietnam’s leading ophthalmology centers.
The hospital not only masters advanced surgical techniques such as ReLEx SMILE, SMILE Pro, Phakic ICL, and Presbyond but also pioneers vitreoretinal microsurgery, helping millions of patients regain their vision and improve their quality of life.
