Within the framework of the conference held on September 20, 2025, MSc, MD Nguyen Phu Tung presented an in-depth study evaluating one-year outcomes following Phakic ICL and IPCL surgery in patients with myopia and astigmatism. The study was conducted based on real-world clinical data from Sai Gon Ngo Gia Tu Eye Hospital, clearly reflecting its applicability and practical value in treatment.

The report focused on analyzing visual outcomes, refractive accuracy, and the safety profile of the two Phakic IOL procedures. The results demonstrated that both Phakic ICL and IPCL deliver high, stable effectiveness with comparable accuracy in the treatment of myopic astigmatism, particularly in patients who are not suitable candidates for laser refractive surgery.

In addition to his clinical experience, Dr. Nguyen Phu Tung has been honored by STAAR Surgical – the world’s leading manufacturer of EVO ICL intraocular lenses – with the title “Phakic Refractive Surgery Expert.” He is also among the few Vietnamese doctors to hold international certification in Phakic IOL techniques, affirming his professional competence to global standards.

From these initial results, the study opens new directions for advancing and standardizing solutions for myopic astigmatism treatment using Phakic ICL and IPCL in Vietnam. In the coming period, MSc, MD Nguyen Phu Tung and his professional team plan to expand the research with a larger sample size, longer follow-up duration, and the inclusion of presbyopic patient groups to further optimize treatment outcomes.
