For many people, glasses are just an accessory. But for Tuong Vy, a future doctor (a General Medicine student at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine), glasses had been a constant companion for 14 years. Tuong Vy’s eye condition included:
- Left eye: -8.00 diopters of myopia, -3.00 diopters of astigmatism
- Right eye: -6.00 diopters of myopia, -2.00 diopters of astigmatism
Wearing glasses not only caused inconvenience in studying and daily activities, but also sometimes affected her confidence, as the frames covered half of her face. Although her parents had advised her to undergo vision correction surgery long ago, she was still hesitant.

What gave Vy the extra motivation to finally take off her glasses was her older brother and younger sister, both of whom had successfully undergone vision correction surgery at Sai Gon Ngo Gia Tu Eye Hospital. Seeing her family members enjoy clear vision gave Tuong Vy even more confidence in choosing to correct her vision.
After a comprehensive examination with MSc, MD Nguyen Phu Tung, Hospital Director and Medical Director, Dr. Phu Tung personally evaluated Vy’s eyes and recommended the most optimal treatment plan. Due to her thin corneas and high degree of myopia, the PHAKIC method was determined to be the most suitable and effective option, helping Vy achieve 20/20 vision.

Phakic ICL is a refractive surgery method that corrects vision by implanting an intraocular lens just behind the iris and in front of the natural crystalline lens, without removing or ablating corneal tissue. Therefore, Phakic ICL is considered a “lifesaver” for cases of severe myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism, thin corneas, or early keratoconus, where conventional laser refractive surgeries are not suitable.
Tuong Vy shared: “I honestly didn’t expect the recovery after vision correction surgery to feel so comfortable. Waking up every morning and being able to see everything clearly is truly an amazing feeling.”
Sai Gon Ngo Gia Tu Eye Hospital sincerely thanks our valued patients for trusting and choosing us on their journey to better eye health. Your satisfaction is our greatest motivation to continuously improve and deliver the best possible care.
