A wide range of advanced techniques in ophthalmic surgery, such as Phakic ICL, Smile, Smile Pro, Phakic, Femto cataract surgery, Presbyond for presbyopia, and amblyopia treatment, are being implemented at the Vietnam-Russia International Eye Hospital, bringing light to millions of patients.
The Microsurgery Revolution in Ophthalmology
The seminar titled “New Trends in Retinal Vitreous Surgery and Functional Eye Reconstruction” was held on May 8 in Hanoi, organized by the Vietnam-Russia International Eye Hospital. The seminar featured experts and doctors from leading national and international ophthalmology hospitals.
Notably, the seminar was attended by Professor-Doctor Khristo Takhchidi, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and former General Director of MNTK Fyodorov (Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation). On the occasion of the hospital’s 15th anniversary, Professor Takhchidi, former President of the Russian Ophthalmological Society, visited and chaired the conference.
MNTK Fyodorov is a major ophthalmology center in the world with over 5,000 doctors and ophthalmic specialists, 12 hospitals across Russia, and 5 international centers. Among the cases treated here, 85% are complex and highly specialized surgeries.
Professor Khristo Takhchidi emphasized the impact of the microsurgery revolution in ophthalmology. Specifically, the finer understanding of the microscopic processes within living tissue opens up new opportunities in the development of clinical medicine in the micro-world of humans. Ophthalmology is proud to lead this process.
Professor Takhchidi also praised the progress of the ophthalmology field in Vietnam. He highlighted the Vietnam-Russia International Eye Hospital as a leading facility in Southeast Asia for ReLEx Smile surgery, with nearly 50,000 successful surgeries, and the hospital also performs the highest number of cataract surgeries with multifocal lenses in Vietnam (*).

“Many advanced techniques have now become routine procedures, such as Smile, Smile Pro, Phakic, Femto cataract surgery, Presbyond for presbyopia, and amblyopia treatment… These have helped restore sight to millions of patients and reduce the incidence of myopia in children,” said Prof. Dr. Khristo Takhchidi.
Restoring Visual Functions for the Visually Impaired
A particularly noteworthy segment of the seminar was Prof. Dr. Khristo Takhchidi’s presentation on cutting-edge microsurgical technologies for the restoration of the macular center and macular hole surgeries, as well as recent advancements and global trends in vitreoretinal surgery in Russia and worldwide.
During the seminar, ophthalmology experts from the Vietnam-Russia International Eye Hospital also shared and discussed new inventions and techniques for reconstructive surgeries aimed at restoring visual function in visually impaired patients.
“The Vietnam-Russia International Eye Hospital was established as part of the collaboration between the two countries in the field of ophthalmology. We are committed and passionate about serving as a bridge between the ophthalmology sectors of the Russian Federation and Vietnam,” shared Mr. Duong Chi Kien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vietnam-Russia Medical Group.
